ADVANCED DISPATCH PRACTITIONER

INRODUCTION

This intense 2 day course is aimed at existing Emergency Operations Room Dispatchers to further enhance their dispatch practice and decision making processes.

Through dramatically improving the EOC function it is anticipated that significant improvements in response performance against AQIs and better clinical care for patients will be the result.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The course utilises the Trusts own dispatch models, policies and procedures and information technology. It ensures that Dispatchers are fully aware of the impact of their dispatch decisions on patients care as well as organisational performance. It enables the delegate to identify and overcome barriers to achievement and provides practical tools to allow them to Respond, Review and Revise their dispatch decisions.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

By the end of the 2 day course the delegate will:

  • Be aware of the importance and criticality of their role in the provision of high quality patient care and achievement of organisational performance.
  • Be aware of all existing deployment models, policies and procedures and practices which impact on their operational role.
  • Be aware of barriers to that might impact on their work role and how to minimise their impact.
  • Be able to make a positive impact on the effective and efficient use of Trust resources through high quality deployment decisions
  • Be able to use all methods of communications effectively to deploy resources.
  • Understand and implement the Respond, Review and Revise (R,R,R) concept as it applies to their deployment decisions.
  • Be able to dynamically deploy organisational resources to meet fluctuations in demand or resource levels arising from predicted demand, un-predicted events and meal break policies.
  • Understand how and when to escalate issues in good time to minimise the impact of developing situations.

ASSESSMENT

Candidates are assessed during the course on an ongoing basis through their interactions and input during discussions. Final assessment is through a number of table top exercises.

It is also anticipated that dispatch practice for delegates will be assessed at 3 and 6 months following the course.
